Thoughts on MCSA Networking Self-Study Certification Courses

The MCSA course is right for anyone hoping to work as a network engineer. So if you're already experienced but want to add to that with a recognised qualification, or you're about to join the computer world, you will be able to select a course to suit your requirements. Identify a training company that's keen to understand you, and can help you work out the right direction for you, prior to any discussions about the relevant training. Experts will also be in a position to tell you where to commence based on your present skill-set and/or gaps in understanding.

Most of us would love to think that our careers will always be secure and our future is protected, but the growing reality for most sectors around England at the moment is that there is no security anymore. However, a quickly growing market-place, where staff are in constant demand (because of a big shortfall of commercially certified workers), opens the possibility of real job security.

Taking the IT industry for example, a key e-Skills analysis highlighted a skills deficit in Great Britain of around 26 percent. To put it another way, this shows that Great Britain can only find 3 trained people for each 4 job positions that exist currently. Acquiring in-depth commercial computing accreditation is correspondingly a 'Fast Track' to succeed in a life-long and enjoyable occupation. No better time or market state of affairs could exist for gaining qualification for this swiftly growing and evolving sector.

Most trainers typically provide mainly work-books and reference manuals. This can be very boring and not a very good way of achieving retention. Research over recent years has repeatedly demonstrated that connecting physically with our study, will more likely produce memories that are deeper and longer-lasting.

Programs are now found via DVD-ROM discs, so you can study at your own computer. Using video-streaming, you will be able to see the instructor presenting exactly how it's all done, followed by your chance to practice - in an interactive lab. It would be silly not to view a small selection of training examples before you hand over your cheque. What you want are video tutorials, instructor demo's and a variety of audio-visual and interactive sections.

Avoid training that is purely online. Physical CD or DVD ROM materials are preferable where possible, so that you have access at all times - ISP quality varies, so you don't want to be totally reliant on your internet connection always being 'up' and available.

The right sort of package of training will also include accredited simulation materials and exam preparation packages. Some students can be thrown off course by practising exam questions that aren't from official sources. Quite often, the way questions are phrased can be quite different and it's important to prepare yourself for this. Practice exams are invaluable as a resource to you - so that when you come to take your actual exams, you will be much more relaxed.

Getting into your first IT role sometimes feels easier to handle with a Job Placement Assistance program. Don't get caught up in this feature - it's easy for companies marketing departments to make too much of it. The fact of the matter is, the massive skills shortage in Great Britain is what will enable you to get a job.

Update your CV at the beginning of your training though - you should get plenty of help from your training provider on this. Don't wait until you've graduated or passed any exams. A good number of junior support jobs have been offered to people who are still learning and haven't even passed a single exam yet. At least this will get you into the 'maybe' pile of CV's - rather than the 'No' pile. Generally, a specialist independent regional recruitment consultant or service (who will get paid by the employer when they've placed you) is going to give you a better service than a centralised training company's service. It also stands to reason that they'll know the local area and commercial needs.

Fundamentally, as long as you put the same commitment into landing a position as into studying, you won't find it too challenging. A number of men and women strangely spend hundreds of hours on their training course and do nothing more once qualified and would appear to think that businesses will just discover them.
